CEBU, Philippines — Deserving guards of GDS Security Agency, whose contract the Cebu City government recently terminated, will be recommended for rehiring under the new agency.

Civil Security Unit (CSU) acting head Chuck Cañete said some of the guards appealed to be rehired and continue serving the City Hall under the new security agency.

Cañete said they have assured the deserving guards that they will be endorsed to the new agency but they have to undergo the screening and evaluation process. According to Cañete, they have noted those guards that are literally sleeping on their post and those that are making parking spaces their own business among other illegal activities.

Cañete said that those who will be hired by the new agency and will continue to be deployed at City Hall will be reassigned to another post.

“Kung over-familiarize naka sa imong poste, mura naka memorize nako sa imong trabaho. Dili na hinoon siya effective sa iyang trabaho,” said Pastor Alcover III, executive director of Peace and Order Program.

Alcover said it was never the intention of Mayor Michael Rama to deprive the guards of their job when he terminated the contract with GDS Security Agency.

“Wala na sa batasan sa atong mayor nga moingun nga kulban sila og kaldero. So tanan nga mga performing security guards nga willing ma-absorb sa bag-ong agency, willing mi mohatag og recommendation nga ipa-rehire sila,” Alcover said.

Alcover said some of the security guards that lost their jobs had been with City Hall for more than 10 years. Some of them served with different security agencies contracted by the city.

“Kwaon nalang gyud nato ang realidad. Kada naay mopuli nga agency, dili gyud lalim nga magpangita og gwardya. Daghan man gud og proseso ang gwardya. I-training pana nimo sila, tagaan pa nimo og lisensya, mogasto pa sila sa ilang uniform,” Alcover said.

At the moment, personnel from CSU, the Cebu City Police Office, and other force multipliers are securing City Hall pending a new security service provider. — (FREEMAN)
