“Spike” cleared, walks free today

Rowena Capistrano, Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Spike, the dog from Talisay City accused of attacking his master to death, finally got the vindication he needed, after it was ascertained that the cause of death of the 63-year-old canine owner was due to heart attack.

“I received the official death certificate on George Mayol earlier today. According to the death certificate, Mayol died of a heart attack,” Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas announced.

Earlier, even the Talisay City police expressed that they do not believe that the dog was responsible for attacking his master to death.

With this development, Talisay’s Acting City Veterinarian, Dr. Hope Dejadena, shortened the Spike’s observation period.

Spike is expected to be released today for adoption.

“Dili na nato dugayon because it clearly shows in the death certificate that he (owner) didn’t die from the dog but from a heart attack,” Gullas stressed.

While under observation, Spike did not show any sign or symptom of rabies.

Aside from Spike, five other dogs will also be up for adoption.

“I would like to thank everyone, ilabi na sa atong very active nga Acting City Vet and to our fur parents nga ni-show gyud sa ilang pag-support ug love for Spike and all the dogs concerned,” said Gullas.

DOG SHOW

Meanwhile, The Talisay City government will hold the 3rd Mayor Samsam Gullas fun dog show and spay/neuter adopt love day on Sunday.

On this day, there will be free veterinary services for Talisaynon pet owners, including rabies vaccination, deworming, vitamins supplementation, consultation, spay/neuter and adoption.

For spay/neuter, only one pet per owner and it should be pure aspin/puspin and at least six months to five years-old.

Pre-registration is required.

For the adoption activity, pet owners who also wish to have their pets adopted are also welcome aside from those who wish to adopt.
