CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City government’s Human Resource Officer Henry Tumalabcab has urged all city hall workers running for elective positions in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections to tender their resignation as soon as possible.
The City’s News and Information unit reported that there are over 20 regular and casual City Hall employees who filed their certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections.
Tumalabcab said some have already resigned before filing their COCs while others directly filed their COCs without submitting their resignation letter yet.
“Naay naka comply…naay wala …Naa pay higayon…We are advising all our employees to give us a copy of their COCs especially those who did not tender their resignation,” Tumalabcab said. This is for record purposes.
Tumalabcad said those will not win in the BKSE may re-apply at the City Hall but no assurance that they will be hired again especially that the city government is implementing right-sizing.
Meanwhile, a unity walk from Plaza Sugbo to Plaza Independencia that capped with the signing of a peace covenant was held yesterday. The event was organized by the Philippine National Police, COMELEC, Armed Forces of the Philippines and other government agencies.
COMELEC-Cebu spokesperson Omar Sharif Mamalinta reported that 1,885 candidates in the north district and 1,526 from the south district of Cebu City joined the activity.
Mamalinta hopes that the signing of the peace covenant and the unity walk “will lead the way towards a secure, accurate, fair, credible, inclusive, gender sensitive, participatory and non-discriminatory electoral process”.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia, who is now the acting mayor, is also looking forward for the Cebuano voters to be involved and actively participate in BSKE-related activities and more importantly, go out and vote.
Garcia is happy that no barangays here are under the election watch list and hopes it remains peaceful before, during and after the October 30 elections. — Rowena Capistrano/FPL (FREEMAN)
