CEBU, Philippines — An alleged scammer who has been in hiding for 13 years was arrested by the operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation-7 in Naga City, Cebu.
The suspect was identified as Eva Ferraris, a resident of the place.
NBI-7 Director Patricio Bernales Jr. has called on other victims to come to their office to file complaints against the suspect.
Bernales said two persons sought their assistance on August 8, 2023 after they claimed to be victims of the investment scam of Ferraris.
The two victims claimed they were enticed by the suspect to invest in the rice business.
Ferraris allegedly supplied rice and packed lunch in one of the schools in Naga City.
The victims alleged that they invested almost P1 million but nothing returned to them.
They later on found out that several people have been locating Ferraris for the same complaints.
After receiving the complaints, the NBI-7 conducted record checking and found out that a complaint for investment scam and estafa had been investigated in December 2010 against the suspect.
The complaint was filed by an overseas Filipino worker who invested more than a million pesos.
Further investigation revealed that a warrant of arrest has been issued against the suspect following the said complaint.
By virtue of the said warrant of arrest, operatives of NBI-7 tracked and arrested Ferraris on September 8, 2023 in Naga City.
Bernales said that at least five complaints are now pending in their office against the suspect and they expect more complainants to surface.
The NBI-7 is now preparing more charges against the suspect. — (FREEMAN)
