CEBU, Philippines —  In collaboration with the city government of Danao, the Department of Labor and Employment-7 has awarded integrated livelihood projects worth P5.7 million to various Danawanon farmers and fishermen’s associations.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing the livelihoods and the funds will be distributed among seven Danawanon associations.

These are the Maslog Fishermen Association- Pamangsihan, Maslog Farmers Association - Egg Laying (chicken), Taytay Fishermen Association- Tamarong Fishing and Payaw, San Roque Farmers Association of Brgy. Baliang-Agri Farm Feeds and Fertilizer Supply, Danasan Farmers Association-Piggery, Katropa-Erpat Movement Farmer Workers Sacsac Association-Rhode Island Chicken Farm Production & Feedmill and Pili Farmers Association- Fertilizer Trading.

Overall, this program will positively impact 351 Danawanons from these associations.

Also, the Danao City government’s AYUDA program has extended a total of P14 million aid among its residents facing hardships in the first half of 2023.

From January to June 2023, the initiative has directly assisted 2,687 Danawanons, delivering a total of P14,185,842.95 in aid.

Launched in 2019, the AYUDA Program thrives on prudent fund allocation and citizen contributions. Its reach has consistently expanded, addressing a wide range of Danawanons' needs including medical, subsistence, educational and burial/wake assistance as well as pabahay and scholarship.

Meanwhile, the City of Yokohama Government-International Affairs Bureau executive director Tomioko Norio and Senior Management Director Mikami Yutaka recently met with Danao City leaders to hasten water treatment facilities for “Merkado sa Danao.”

Danao City Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano, Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III and Investment and Promotions Officer Ramon “Red” Durano VI presented the Merkado sa Danao Plan.

The market will be a two-storey building with 1,200 commercial stores.

Since the market is expected to generate tons of both solid and water waste, Danao City is integrating an approach towards sustainability through the WasteWater Treatment Facility.

In a statement, the city government said that the facility includes a technology that is specifically structured and programmed to filter and prevent sewage.

This innovation will prevent contaminated waste water from going directly to the sea. Waste water from the city market will first undergo a process where it is processed and filtered, making sure it is clean before it will be released into the ocean.

Aside from the city market, plans of exploring other areas within the city are also considered.

The Danao-Yokohama partnership was sealed last February 24, 2023 in the city where consultants and local government leaders expressed plans of developing ‘Green Recovery and Green Innovation Technologies’ that aligns with the city’s priority plans.

This partnership is part of the Yokohama Partnership of Resources and Technology (YPORT) which aims to share best practices on urban development, smart, and sustainable technologies.

“Sama sa akoang gihimug-atan kanunay, integrating the welfare of our environment while expanding our economic potential is one of our top priorities. Economic progress must not make the environment suffer,” said Mayor Durano.
