Guadalupe logs most number of dog bites
CEBU, Philippines — Barangay Guadalupe has the most number of cases of dog bites in the City of Cebu for the first half of 2023.
The barangay also had the most number of incidents of dog bites last year at 1,230.
For the first half of 2023, Guadalupe already registered 343 as bared by one of Mayor Michael Rama’s special assistants, Dr. Alice Utlang, to The Freeman.
The 19 other barangays with the most number of dog bite cases include Tisa (257), Lahug (215), Inayawan (219), Labangon (200), Talamban (182), Basak San Nicolas (181), Mambaling (173), Quiot (191), Mabolo (167), Kalunasan (147), Pardo (141), Carreta (132), Basak Pardo (132), Apas (129), Duljo (117), Punta Princesa (112), Cogon Pardo (102) , Tejero (97) and Bulacao (90).
Along with this, Utlang gives an advise concerning dog bites.
"Una hugasan ug sabon ug flowing water for 5 to 10 minutes. Then butangan ug betadine or alcohol," Utlang said.
It is also important for one to know if the dog is vaccinated.
If vaccinated and the dog bite is far from the head, the dog has to be observed for five to 14 days.
"If ang paak naa sa ulo, liog, buko-buko, kinahanglan nga inigkahuman og hugas kay moadto dayon sa bite treatment center bisan pa man nga bakunado ang iro kay duol man gud na sa utok," explained Utlang.
However, if the dog is unvaccinated, or a stray dog, the victim should go directly to the bite treatment center.
Earlier, Mayor Rama said that more funding for vaccination for dogs and those bitten by dogs should be set aside through the city’s disaster funds. — Sanden J. Anadia (FREEMAN)
