CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has launched an investigation into reports that the old Barangay Hall in Kamagayan has been turned into a boarding house and is being rented out.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, who allegedly received the report, said the old barangay hall should be demolished to give way for the construction of a road that would lead to either Jakosalem Street or Junquera Street.

It is not fair that the barangay hall will be turned into a boarding house and then the barangay pays for the electricity and water, Rama said.

After receiving the report, Rama immediately ordered the police, through CCPO Director Ireneo Dalogdog, to conduct a probe into the report and check who is accountable for it.

Police Lt. Col. Janette Rafter, CCPO Deputy City Director for Operations, said that the Investigation and Detective Management Unit (IDMU), which is headed by Police Lt. Col. Ma. Theresa Macatangay, will lead the investigation.

The Pari-an Police Station 1 is will also be assisting and supporting in the investigation.

Rafter said they will have to endorse the information and results of their investigation to Dalogdog for him to review, before finally submitting it to Rama.

Kamagayan Barangay Captain Raquel Avila has begged off from commenting on the investigation about the issue.

Aside from the probe into the Kamagayan controversy, Dalogdog was also ordered, together with the heads of the Cebu City Traffic Office, to unclog the front part of Guadalupe Barangay Hall of old, malfunctioning cars and garbage trucks since they provide risk to people's health. – (FREEMAN)
