CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has alerted its personnel and barangay responders 24/7 ahead of time following the weather bureau’s declaration of the rainy season.

CCDRRMO chief Harold Alcontin said they have already instructed their responders to closely monitor the landslide-prone areas.

There are 30 barangays in the upland area of the city that are said to be prone to landslides.

Of the 30 barangays, more personnel are assigned to the likes of Busay, Malubog, Binaliw, Pit-os, and Guba.

Responders are to give weather updates and situationer in the barangays assigned to them.

Alcontin through the city’s Public Information Office also said that they have also pre-positioned their resources and equipment in strategic areas in the upland side along with that in the south, north, and central districts for them to be able to respond to any medical emergency.

Meanwhile, the city government had a well-participated earthquake drill at the City Hall.

However, Alcontin admitted that there are still some things that need to be improved.

CCDRRMO is also looking at doing the next earthquake drill to be “unannounced” to see the real response of the employees and visitors at the City Hall. — (FREEMAN)
