CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Energy recently launched its campaign, “You Have the Power! Energy Efficiency Starts with You!” at the SM Seaside City Cebu.
The said campaign aims to encourage the public to adopt an energy-efficient lifestyle, which not only helps to reduce bills, but also promotes sustainability in households and instills a sense of shared responsibility.
According to the DOE, energy efficiency can reduce energy demand, lessen the environmental stress due to energy production and use, and will lead to competitive yet affordable production costs of goods and services.
The energy department added that improvement in energy use in major energy-consuming sectors would result in the deferment or the need for new power generation facilities, and eventually reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants resulting from energy production and utilization.
The said campaign is in partnership with SM Supermalls and SM Cares, in collaboration with the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development Energy Secure Philippines (USAID ESP), the mall campaign will run on five different malls to be closer to energy end-users.
Also, winning artworks from the DOE’s Digital Poster Making Contest, which were created by students from various schools in Cebu, were also featured as well as a
a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle was on display.
The USAID-ESP supported platforms, City of Energia, Wattmatters, and EnerhiyangAtin, also joined the launch.
“We need everyone's support to achieve our goal of energy efficiency and conservation in the country. The participation of the youth is important as they are the future of our nation. We believe that they have the power to create a more sustainable world,” said PCO Director Faith de Guia.
Aside from SM Seaside City Cebu, the roadshow will also travel to SM City Baguio and SM Lanang Premier in Davao City.
