VIPs extending P4 million assistance to Liloan
CEBU, Philippines — A total of P4 million worth of financial aid was received by the clustered barangay contingents and the Municipality of Liloan for its Rosquillos Festival held on Saturday.
The comeback of the Rosquillos Festival was made after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic brought by the COVID-19.
"We may have endured three dark years because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but our love and faith in God has become our lighthouse that has guided us along the way," Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco said in his speech.
Vice President Sara Duterte attended the event as the guest of honor of the town's festival where she gave P25,000 each to the eight clustered contingents composed of 14 barangays of Liloan.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who also graced the event announced that the Capitol has provided P100,000 each of the clustered groups and on top of that is P3 million for the festival itself that will be coursed through the Mayor's Office, according to the Capitol Information Office.
Both Duterte and Garcia proceeded to the event after attending the grand launch of Pier 88 in Liloan with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
During the town's festival, the Pundok Lungsoranon of Barangay Poblacion earned the most number of awards which include the Best in Andas, Best in Decorated Van, Best in Costume, Best in Musicality and overall winner in the Best in Street dancing and ritual showdown.
In street dancing, the Catarman Cultural Troupe of Barangay Catarman got the 2nd runner-up while the 1st runner-up is Tribu Yatianon of Barangay Yati.
For the ritual showdown, 4th runner-up was Banay Sta. Cruzanon and Sanvicentehanon of Barangay Sta. Cruz and Barangay San Vicente; 3rd runner-up was San LaCaMula Cultural Troupe of Barangay San Roque, Barangay Cabadiangan, Barangay Mulao and Barangay Lataban; 2nd runner-up was Tribu Yatianon of Barangay Yati and 1st runner-up was Catarman Cultural Troupe of Barangay Catarman.
Best in Graphic Design was awarded to Tribu Yatianon of Barangay Yati.
The Rosquillos Festival is celebrated every year in Liloan to honor its patron saint, St. Ferdinand El Rey.
This year Liloan celebrates its 176th annual fiesta.
GENERALLY PEACEFUL
Meanwhile, the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) described the Rosquillos Festival and the grand launching at Pier 88 in Liloan town as generally peaceful.
