Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will help transport infrastructure projects to be managed better and operated through interconnection and integration with the latter’s systems.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, during the Inter-Government Agency MOU Ceremonial Signing for E-Governance, said that DICT’s “crucial assistance” will keep the transport infrastructure projects on track.

In a statement, Bautista said that the initiative will likewise facilitate the integration and interconnection of pertinent systems and applications.

“Digitalizing the implementation and construction of these projects will not only keep us on track, but also ensure adherence to high standards of safety, comfort, reliability, and efficiency,” Bautista said adding that the DOTr’s goal of digital transformation “can be achieved sooner” with the assistance from DICT.

DOTr said that under the MOU, the DICT will help DOTr identify and develop new and existing systems and applications to ensure effective and efficient delivery of the agency’s service to the public.

The agreement, it added, will also help DOTr ensure that identified and existing applications and systems will be integrated with the applications and systems of the DICT.

On the other hand, the DICT will develop additional applications and systems for the DOTr and provide consultations and training to personnel for enhancing and facilitating systems and applications for integration and interconnection.

Bautista added that the MOU signing ceremony signals the start of a significant partnership that should help elevate the transport projects to world-class standards.

The Inter-Government Agency signing for E-Governance is a significant event where multiple government agencies come together to pledge their commitment towards establishing an integrated electronic governance system.

The DOTr added that the E-Governance is the use of technology by pushing the digitalization to streamline the delivery of government services, making them more accessible, efficient, and transparent to citizens. — GAN (FREEMAN)
