CEBU, Philippines — Over 200 jobseekers were hired on the spot during the Kadaugan Job Fair held in Lapu-Lapu City as one of the activities lined up in the month-long celebration of the 502nd anniversary of the Battle of Mactan.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan said 206 Oponganons were hired immediately by the companies participating in the job fair.
“Congratulations sa tanang naglangkob niining malampusong job fair nga adunay tumong nga mahatagan og trabaho ang matag pamilya dinhi sa atong syudad,” Chan said.
The Kadaugan Job Fair was participated by 39 companies and a school. It was made possible through the City Public Employment Service Office in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment, Aboitiz InfraCapital, MEZ2 Estate, and The Outlet.
The Kadaugan Job Fair was among the various events lined up this April to celebrate the Kadaugan sa Mactan or the much touted victory of Datu Lapulapu against foreign invader Ferdinand Magellan.
The Cebu International Academy (CIA) was among the companies that hired several applicants during the event. CIA training officer Melisajen Galeon said they hired teachers with excellent communication skills. The school needs 300 summer teachers this season and 15 teachers this week. Their school continues to hire teachers even after the job fair.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment announced that in celebration of the 121st Labor Day on May 1, three major activities have been lined up to honor the Filipino workers.
These include the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa, the awarding of government assistance to workers, and the conduct of nationwide simultaneous job fairs.
According to DOLE, this year’s Labor Day is observed with the theme: “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”
To facilitate employment, simultaneous job fairs will be conducted in various SM and Robinsons malls nationwide. As early as now, DOLE is encouraging jobseekers to be ready with their application requirements, such as resume or curriculum vitae, certificate of employment for those formerly employed, diploma, and transcript of records. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
