City collects P907 million in RPT in 1st quarter

Sanden J. Anadia - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has collected more than P907 million in real property taxes (RPT) in the first quarter of 2023.

The City Treasurer's Office has previously set the deadline for RPT payment last March 31, 2023.

In an interview with reporters, City Treasurer Mare Vae Reyes disclosed that there are still some real property owners who have not yet paid.

He urged the owners of real property who have not yet paid their taxes to pay now to avoid the penalty.

Reyes clarified that they will go through a process by sending them notices.

Failure to settle their RPTs obligation means a penalty of two percent interest for each month.

The treasurer's office targets to collect more than P1.2 billion in RPT for the whole year.

The collection of RPT comes from condominiums, automated teller machines, telco towers, among others.

Part of the RPT will go to the different government programs or projects.

The Cebu City government currently uses the old RPT Code.

Last February, Mayor Michael Rama vetoed an ordinance approved by the City Council revising the code.

Meanwhile, Reyes also reminded the people about the deadline for filing the business tax.

The deadline is April 20, 2023, and they have set up a processing area in Robinsons Galleria-Cebu. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
