During flag ceremonies: Rama calls out city councilors for truancy

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has called on all elected city officials to show their respect to the country by attending regularly the flag ceremony at the City Hall grounds every Monday.

Honoring the flag by attending flag ceremonies is not only showing respect to the country but also remembering the greatness and the supreme sacrifices of our forefathers so we can enjoy the freedom that we have now.

Rama called out his fellow officials after noticing that only Councilor Francis Esparis was consistently attending flag ceremonies.

“Usahay pila raman ka councilors akong makit-an, kaniadto pa na…kanunay si Francis… At time, si Jaypee (Labella)…supposedly si Joel (Garganera) pirmi na. Ato lang i-awhag sa tanan, kay kanus-a man gud? Kay kon dili karon, kon dili kita, kinsa man? As I’ve said, this is not about winning or losing, this is fighting for what is right,“ Rama said.

It is during flag ceremony that important announcements are made by the mayor. It is also during that time that the different departments at City Hall report their accomplishments in the past week.

The mayor also reminded all the city employees the value of attending flag ceremonies.

“This is a very important facet, especially sa mga bata…i-cherish gyud ni ninyo…you will have pictures…something to look back,” Rama said.

By seeing the pictures of their lolos and lolas or parents attending flag ceremonies, it already develops a sense of pride, Rama said.

“They develop that pride nga ang ila diay katigulangan naa diay kasingkasing nga pagtuo sa Ginoo ug labaw sa tanan sa pagrespitar sa atong bandila,” Rama said.

Reorganization

Meanwhile, Rama reminded everyone that the re-organization at City Hall is not yet done.

“There will still be a continuing re-organization,” he said.

The mayor told his workforce to meet again with him to discuss more of this matter.

“Still a continuing re-organization and that should be up to this month,” Rama said.

The first batch of reshuffling was already implemented last week. — FPL (FREEMAN)
