CEBU, Philippines — Young farmers in Central Visayas are encouraged to grab the opportunity to be part of an internship program in Taiwan.
The Cebu City Agriculture Department has amplified the invitation from the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) for the young farmers who want to improve their know-how in agriculture.
The Filipino Young Farmers Internship Program (FYFIP) in Taiwan Batch 2023 is a partnership between the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) through a Memorandum of Understanding.
The partnership, ATI said, aims to enhance the relations of Taiwan and the Philippines through the implementation of an internship program for qualified young Filipino farmers. The internship program will include the acquisition of skills and knowledge through modern agricultural and fisheries techniques including value chain management, cooperative management, and enhancement of competencies, discipline, and values.
Qualifications for the internship program in Taiwan specified that this is for young Filipino farmers 18 to 36 years old at the time of application and is an out-of-school youth (OSY) and jobless but have graduated high school or from a technical-vocation school or undergraduate in college. Applicants should have no live-in partner or child.
They can either be a son or daughter of a farmer or fisher, or a Learning Site for Agriculture or Farm School cooperators, but not related to any ATI employee by affinity or consanguinity, until 3rd degree.
They also have existing land regardless of size and status of ownership and must have at least one (1) year of accumulated farming experience at the time of application with no overdue obligations from the ATI and not be a recipient of ATI’s other international exchange program.
One also has to have a good community standing, good communication skills, and English proficient, no physical deformities and have passed medical examinations from accredited diagnostic clinics, hospitals, and laboratories by the Department of Health, and must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 at the time of application and willing to learn Mandarin and new technologies with a valid Philippine passport for at least two (2) or five (5) years validity.

The deadline for the application is on March 20 followed by a written examination at the provincial level on March 23 and field validation from March 24 to 29. ATI also encourages interested applicants to visit their LGU’s agriculture office for endorsement. — FPL (FREEMAN)
