CEBU, Philippines — Residents in all the 25 barangays in the Municipality of Tabogon, Cebu will soon have 24/7 water supply.
Tabogon Mayor Francis Edward Salimbangon made the assurance as the 900 cubic meter capacity water tank is nearing its completion.
The first time mayor told The Freeman that of the 25 barangays, four have water supply scheduling while one barangay has no water supply ever since.
“Sukad pa sa una kaning upat ka barangay scheduled ni ang oras sa agas while kaning usa ka barangay wala gyud ni agas sukad pa sa una. Ang mga constituents ani kay maghakot sa og tubig sa nearby barangay nga naay tubig,” Salimbangon said.
These four barangays are Canao-Canao, Managase, Loong and Combado while Barangay Manglagtang has zero source of water.
He said that water supply has been a longtime problem in his town wherein just last February, an additional eight barangays (totalling to 20) already experience a 24/7 water supply.
The town has a total population of 43,000.
“Mao gyud ni ang akong campaign promise ug mao gyud ni ang akong first priority nga to provide water supply sa tanang 25 ka mga barangay,” Salimbangon added.
He said once the repair of the 900 cubic meter capacity water tank is completed, this will surely solve the town’s water problem.
“Pwerteng dugaya na gyud ning problema. Hopefully within the year mahuman na ang pag repair sa water tank,” the neophyte mayor added.
The said water tank has long been constructed but was not used reportedly due to some leakage which prompted Salimbangon, when he assumed office last year, to have it inspected and have it repaired.
Playground
Meanwhile, Salimbangon visited Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma the other day to ask permission to use a portion of land located near the parish church in their municipality for the construction of a playground/park that can benefit children and senior citizens, which the latter allowed.
Salimbangon said the amount of P3 million that will be used for the construction of the playground is coming from the Cebu Provincial Government.
Salimbangon said that he wanted this playground to be completed before May 19, 2023, which is the town’s annual fiesta.
“Ever since before, ang Tabogon is a very isolated town. Gani mura daghan wala naka ila and nakita nako daghan kaayo kuwang. While our main problem is the water. Ato naman na hinay hinay og sulbad. So karon nangita napud ko lain ways na ang mga bata og seniors naa ma dulaan, ma relaxan. Kay karon wala gyud area ang lungsod namu na child and senior friendly,” Salimbangon added.
A memorandum of agreement will soon be entered between the municipal government and the Cebu Archdiocese for the realization of the said playground. — GMR (FREEMAN)
