Over 10T traffic violators apprehended in 1 month

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) has recorded over 10,000 traffic violators in the month of January.

Disregarding traffic signs, expired license and registration are the most common violations, the CCTO records show.

According to the city’s traffic bureau, a total of 10,230 citation tickets were issued for the entire month of January. CCTO has impounded 647 motorcycles, 140 e-bikes, 20 trisikad, and a private vehicle. There were also 361 vehicles that got clamped for the same period.

The CCTO said it has noted several public utility vehicles are overloading, especially during night time.

“Overloading nisiaw na pud og balik. Mao kini nabatasan sa mga driver aning mga modern bus sa panahon sa kagabhion,” CCTO posted on social media.

The agency has warned PUV drivers that they will be apprehended if caught disregarding capacity limit. It has also advised all violators to settle their violations by paying the corresponding fines to avoid legal complications.

In 2022, CCTO recorded a total of 132,299 traffic violators in the city. — Sanden J. Anadia, FPL (FREEMAN)
