Carbon kids to get free tutorial sessions

CEBU, Philippines — The Carbon Market Redevelopment Project goes beyond the structure itself, but also for the development of the children within the Carbon community.

This as the Cebu2World Development Inc. and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) yesterday forging a landmark partnership in developing learning modules for the children of the Carbon community.

Ermita barangay officials, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and other stakeholders also witnessed the MOA signing.

Aside from Barangay Ermita, children from other neighboring barangays around Carbon are also welcome to avail of the tutorial session.

Following the MOA signing is the official launch of the program dubbed as “Paglaum sa mga Bata sa Carbon” which will be held at the USJ-R lobby.

The goal is to engage the children in the Carbon community tutorial sessions that will reinforce their academic knowledge in English, Mathematics, and Arts with Cebu2World providing the logistical support and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure a smooth-flowing execution.

Earlier, a Children’s Choir in Carbon was also launched and is also set to undergo further training to prepare the members to perform for the Eucharistic celebration at Sto. Niño Chapel.

Along with this, participating children will be guided through values formation teaching with USJ-R’s Campus Ministry Office.

“This project involves both the hardscape and the softscape. The hardscape is the brick and mortar or the structure. That is the easy part. But the difficult one is the soft scape or the values that we want to promote and inculcate in the community,” Cebu2World Development Inc. Deputy General Manager Lydwena Eco, said in a statement.

USJ-R President, Rev. Fr. Eduardo Celis Jr., OAR, urged everyone including other schools to accept the challenge of building a better Carbon community as it is a shared responsibility to mold these children into morally upright and productive citizens.

USJ-R will provide the manpower as well as the modules while Cebu2World provided the rooms for the tutorial sessions for easier access to the children.

Schedules of the tutorial sessions are yet to be finalized at the moment to ensure that there will be no conflict with regular classes during the weekly sessions. — GMR (FREEMAN)
