CEBU, Philippines — Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas is set to celebrate his birthday this year by leading several activities including the opening of the city’s Lechon Park on December 1.
Gullas disclosed via Facebook that on his birthday, all stalls within the big building in Poblacion and all the lechon food stalls in the food court around the area will be finally opened.
Gullas said, their priority to sell in the area are the vendors from Poblacion itself who were affected by the demolition of their structures for the construction of the Poblacion Park.
“Angay ug matarong sila ang hatagan ug priority sa gobyerno kay cla man ang na affected sa una Pag himo sa improvements sa Poblacion park,” said Gullas on Facebook post.
Before the said Lechon Park can go full blast with its operations though, Gullas was already able to showcase it to the participants of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo being its last stop on its Southern Heritage Trail.
“Since ang atong dakbayan maoy last stop, we wanted Gov. Gwen (Garcia) and the participants to feel that we saved the best for last...We prepared a welcome party that Talisaynons can be proud of. We treated them sa kaanindot sa atong Lechon Park, sa pagsayaw sa atong talented dancers but also, sa atong lamian nga delicacies sama sa atong lechon,” added Gullas.
For Gullas, the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo is something that “unites” the whole Province of Cebu while also giving the LGUs a chance to showcase the beauty of one’s city and promote local products and delicacies.
“Suroy Suroy Sugbo has been a great part of our culture as Cebuanos and it contributed a lot to who we are today. ..Thank you Gov. Gwen Garcia for creating the Suroy Suroy Sugbo for the benefit of all the people in the Province of Cebu and for including us in this year's tour,” said Gullas.
Meanwhile, aside from the lechon park, Gullas is also scheduled to lead the ceremonial switching of Christmas lights in the City Hall and the Poblacion park itself.
“Dec .1 is my birthday. During this day we will have the ceremonial switch on of our Christmas lights in Poblacion and in City Hall…During Dec 1 we will also finally open all the stalls within the big building in Poblacion and all the Lechon food stalls in food court,” Gullas announced.
Gullas and the rest of Talisaynons and the rest are all excited about the new things to do and see in Talisay City while enjoying the famous Talisay lechon. —GMR (FREEMAN)
