Another P100 million for Kahanas program

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government is setting aside another P100 million for the second round of Sugbo Kahanas, another flagship program of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was entered into by the Province of Cebu and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) represented by its regional director, Gamaliel Vicente Jr. on November 16.

The MOA marks another round of skills training for the Cebuanos which will be conducted by TESDA.

The training aims to hone and enhance their skills from the 22 vocational and technical courses offered by TESDA.

Those who will qualify for this training will receive subsidies and allowances from the Capitol. They will be provided with starter tool kits upon completion of their course and will be given national certificates (NC-II) from TESDA just like the 4,329 individuals who benefited from the said program.

The fund for this program will be coursed through the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, for which each of them will be given P5 million each for the implementation of the program since the offices of the board members will be the one to screen and accept applicants in their respective districts.

For the Office of the Vice Governor, it has an allocation of P15 million since it has the wider scope of constituents which covers the whole province.

The skills training program was conceptualized at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic to help the Cebuanos who lost their jobs in the local and abroad because of the restrictions imposed during that time.

The MOA signing last November 16 was witnessed by Vice Governor Hilario Davide III, Board Member Thadeo Jovito Ouano, who is the chair of the committee on technical and vocational education of the Provincial Board, and TESDA provincial director Floro Ringca. — GMR (FREEMAN)
