Children’s park set to replace Pasil’s temporary fish market

CEBU, Philippines —  Pasil’s temporary fish market has been moved anew, this time placed under the unfinished Pasil Fish Port, as Mayor Michael Rama orders the recovery of the children’s park in the area.

The unfinished fish market and fish port are both projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), according to the city’s PIO.

DPWH Cebu City district engineer Yusoph Rasuman accordingly gave a “go” to utilize the unfinished fish port as a temporary market.

In due time, these fish vendors will be housed at the actual Pasil Fish Market once the DPWH completes the project while the bagsakan at the South Road Properties (SRP) will be transferred to the Pasil Fish Port when it is finished already.

Rama has designated Engr. Robert “Bob” L. Barquilla as the point person in the transfer of the fish vendors from the children’s park and utilize the unfinished fish port as a temporary market.

Suba Barangay Captain Joel “Jojo” Sable will also facilitate the transfer of the vendors, since most of those affected are his constituents.

Barquilla said the composite team he leads will start tomorrow to clear and demolish the structures at the old temporary fish market.

Prior to that, some structures inside the fish port were already demolished while the road around the said facility has already been cleared.

After that, the new location of the temporary fish market was blessed as per tradition with Rama, his special assistant Atty. Jerone G. Castillo and Sable in attendance.

With the transfer of the temporary fish market to a new location, the recovery of the Pasil Children’s Park would also proceed soon.

The city will restore the Pasil Children’s Park through a public-private partnership (PPP).

The mayor has again tapped Engr. Apollo “Cocoy” S. Enriquez, Jr. He was the first to consolidate resources to put up the previous park.

Enriquez, chair of the Board of Civil Engineering of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC), is expected to pool resources from his professional circles and Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senate that he served before as Cebu chapter president and national president.

“Children should be able to play there by December 1, just in time for the Christmas holidays,” said Barquilla.

The children in Pasil, along with those from Barangays Suba, Sawang Calero, San Nicolas Proper and Pahina San Nicolas will now soon have a safe place to play.

“Tuyo ug tumong sa atong mayor nga mabalik ang hawanan nga kadulaan sa mga kabataan nga dili angay maguol ang ilang mga ginikanan kay ang maong dapit luwas man ug binantayan pa sa atong kapolisan ug mga tanod,” Barquilla said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
