Filipino-Chinese business chambers donate school building to Mandaue City
CEBU, Philippines — A three-storey school building donated by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and Cebu Mandaue Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City has been turned over to the city government and the Department of Education.
The formal turnover was led by Mandaue City Lone District Representative Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon over the weekend. The building, which has six classrooms, is touted as the biggest school building ever donated in the city and is now officially part of the Tingub Elementary School.
“May you continue to build more of this lasting legacy for the education of our children. This is something that will benefit thousands of families not just within our time, but also for many generations to come,” Dizon said in her speech.
The turnover was witnessed by the city officials led by Mayor Jonas Cortes, DepEd Mandaue Schools Division, Chinese Consul General Jia Li and the presidents of the two chambers—Lucio Tapnio of FFCCC and Richard Ng of the CMFCCC.
According to Dizon, Dr. Nimfa Bongo, Mandaue Schools Division Superintendent, sought her assistance last year for more classrooms. It was also timely that the two business chambers offered to donate a school building.
“Wa gyud mo masayop sa inyung pagpili sa classroom buildings dihni sa Tingub. The barangay needs it, the school badly needs it,” Dizon told the donors.
She also thanked the city government for extending its assistance to ensure that the project is done.
Cortes, for his part, expressed his thanks to the donors for looking after the future of the school children in the city.
“Sa pagtinabangay uban sa pribadong sector ug mga non-government organization dayag ang pagpakabana sa Mandaue City sa kalambuan sa natad sa edukasyon,” Cortes said in a Facebook post. — FPL (FREEMAN)
