CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has approved a P500,000 financial incentive to Tribu Lumad Basakanon for bringing pride and honor to the city after winning the gold medal in the Powerful Daegu Festival 2022 in Daegu, South Korea in July this year.
The amount will be charged against the City-Sponsored Activities-Other Activities account.
“The Cebu City government gives recognitions and supports to Cebuano talents, athletes, and personalities who are giving pride and honor to the city,” read the resolution sponsored by Councilor Donaldo Hontiveros.
Mayor Michael Rama earlier pledged to grant financial incentive in the amount of P500,000 to Tribu Lumad Basakanon for giving pride and honor not only to the city but to the entire country.
The city government has been very supportive to the Lumad Basakanon contingent. In fact, the city has given an undisclosed amount of financial assistance to help the group defray the travel expenses to South Korea. The group won a total cash price of P342,000.
After winning the competition, Rama directed Hontiveros, who chairs the City Council’s Committee on Tourism, to work on the documents needed for the provision of the financial incentive to the group.
City Budget Officer Marietta Gumia has issued a Certificate of Availability of Funds under Account No. 1011-50299990-16 (City Sponsored Activities- Other Activities).
City Treasurer Mare Vae F. Reyes likewise issued a Certificate of Availability of Funds in the amount of P500,000, which is specifically earmarked to cover the grant of the financial incentive to Tribu Lumad Basakanon.
The Tribu Lumad Basakanon showcased the beat and colors of the Sinulog during the competition that paved the way for a come-from-behind victory against Mongolia.
When the group returned to the city, the city government headed by Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia, who was then acting mayor, honored them following the City Hall’s flag raising ceremony. — FPL (FREEMAN)
