CEBU, Philippines — Fire victims in three barangays in Cebu City that have not yet received their financial assistance from the city government will finally be able to claim it today, Sept.10, 2022.

The barangays involved are the Barangay Ermita, Quiot, and Punta Princesa with the distribution to be done in their barangay gyms except in Punta Princesa which will be done at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often informally known as the Mormon Church.

There are at least 98 families in Barangay Quiot that were affected by fire in their area, 169 families in Ermita, and over 500 families in Punta Princesa that will be given aid today, said Department of Social Welfare and Services head Portia Basmayo.

Affected structure owners will get P20,000 while renters will have P10,000 each.

Those that will claim their financial assistance today are expected to prepare ahead the required documents as well as a photocopy of their IDs with signatures to speed up the process.

Requirements in claiming to include a valid ID or police clearance, voter’s certification with its picture on it, and a fully-accomplished form sent out by DSWS earlier to the victims.

Authorization letters will no longer be accepted.

“Dili pwede nga si bana ang nakasuwat sa family head tapos si asawa ang mokuha…Ang atong nabutang sa payroll is only one ra man like kung moingon ka si wife lang si wife lang atong nabutang, kung moingon si husband, si husband ra man atong nabutang…Katong family head, katong naay gibutang sa babaw nga family head mao ra gyud to siya’y makakuha at least makuan ba para dili magbalik-balik,” Basmayor said.

Those who cannot claim it today will be given five days to get it.

“Last nalang ni siya nga ayuda nga kuan, nakahatag naman ta sa housing, nakahatag naman ta sa mga goods, relief goods, kani nalang financial ang last…Naa man tay mga proseso gikuan unya gi-process sa accounting, naay gipanghan-ay lang sa,” said Basmayor. — Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
