Indian national charged for illegal recruitment, estafa

CEBU, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation has filed cases against an Indian national linked to illegal recruitment and estafa.

The accused was identified as Harjot Singh, also known as James Jeiz, a resident of Sitio Ciwac, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.

According to NBI-7, Singh allegedly committed fraudulent acts to at least 26 Cebuanos whom he offered jobs in exchange for a P20,000 fee.

Singh allegedly started his illegal recruitment in June 2021.

The suspect allegedly showed the victims a copy of job orders offering up to P130,000 of monthly salary.

The victims were told to just wait for the response from the Australian Embassy in Manila.

The NBI-7 said the suspect also asked for medical records and service fees from the victims.

Impatient of waiting for months of no deployment, some victims asked the suspect to refund the placement fees but the latter reportedly refused prompting them to seek assistance from the NBI-7.

Upon validation, the NBI-7 found out that Singh is not a licensed recruiter with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

Aside from illegal recruitment and estafa, Singh will also face charges for violation of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipino Act of 1995.

The NBI-7 is just waiting for the court to issue a warrant to arrest the suspect. — Banat News, GMR (FREEMAN)
