Renewal needs professional development units: City nurses seek help for license

Mary Ruth R. Malinao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Nurses at the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) have sought the help of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) in having their licenses renewed.

As reported by the city’s public information office, the nurses need continuing professional development units through trainings and seminars to have their licenses renewed every three years. The problem is that these activities were very limited in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to help them with their registration with PNA and also since they need to have CPD (continuing professional development) units for their renewal of license with the PRC (Professional Regulation Commission),” said Jinel Joy Tabada, president of the Cebu City Health Nurses Association (CCHNA).

CCHNA is composed of around 60 casual and regular nurses under the CHD, many of whom are experiencing the problem.

Tabada said officials of the PNA have met with them face to face to discuss the dilemma.

PNA Region-7 Governor, Dr. Stephen Descallar, has informed the group that PNA actually offers monthly webinars for nurses to complete their CPD requirements.

“This July 23, we have another webinar on the Principles of Toxicology for nurses. It’s only P100 for active PNA members, and P200 for non-active members,” he told the group.

Descallar also mentioned that the PNA will celebrate its 100th anniversary this coming September, and several activities have been planned to mark the occasion.

Among others, the PNA is set to recognize at least 100 Central Visayas nurses who have made significant contributions to their respective communities.

They will be given the Stories of Hope and Inspiration of Nurse’s Endeavor (SHINE) Award. – JMO (FREEMAN)
