CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and officials of the Australian Embassy to the Philippines recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the PADS-Mandaue City Adaptive Sports and Rehabilitation Center located at Pajara Park in Barangay Umapad.

This structure will be made for persons with disabilities so that they will have a place for exercise and training, especially for the Team Pilipinas sa Paradragon that already gave pride and honor to the city.

In a Facebook post, the Mandaue City Public Information Office said that the PWDs were so glad of this latest development and grateful to the city government of its support.

Cortes said that this is one of the ways of the city government in showing support to PWDs.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 Visayas Disaster Resource Center also inaugurated yesterday the Re-Installed Mechanized Production System for the production of Family Food Packs located in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City.

The activity was attended by World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director Brenda Barton, DSWD Disaster Response Management Group Undersecretary Felicisimo Budiongan, DSWD regional directors, Disaster Response Management division chiefs and section heads.

At the VDRC, family food packs are packed by some of its personnel and volunteers to be used during response operations and augmentation to the local government units, especially during disasters or calamities that may hit the region. — JMD (FREEMAN)
