Archdiocese of Cebu to join world meeting of families’ celebration

CEBU, Philippines — Recognizing the values and importance of families, the Archdiocese of Cebu through its Commission on Family and Life will celebrate the 10th World Meeting of Families in Cebu.

This is in response to Pope Francis’ call to encourage the involvement of diocesan communities all over the world to the worldwide family congress.

The activities in Cebu will be held simultaneously with Rome on June 22, 25 and 26.

The Family Congress will be held on June 25, 2022 at SM Seaside Skyhall and on June 26, 2022 at Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

The congress will provide an opportunity for families to participate, be involved and contribute, with their inputs, insights and sharing, to the ecclesial community.

“I see the celebration of the World Meeting of Families as one such meaningful celebration where they experience the grace, the presence of God, the love of God, particularly where its suppose to start namely the family,” said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.

The World Meeting of Families started during the time of Pope John Paul II in 1994 after the declaration by the United Nations the “International Year of the Family”.

The Holy Father wanted that the Year of the Family is celebrated in every parish in the world resulting in the first World Meeting of the Family in Rome in October 1994.

The World Meeting of the Families is done every three years in different parts of the world.

This year’s family congress has a theme: “Family Love: A Vocation and a Path to Holiness”. — Decemay Padilla, FPL (FREEMAN)
