CEBU, Philippines —  Two fire incidents that struck Cebu City on Monday, June 6, 2022 displaced at least 60 families in Barangays Tisa and Ermita and damaged property amounting to P3.7 million.

The fire in Tisa, which hit a residential area, may have been caused by electrical mishap, said Senior Fire Officer 3 Emerson Arceo.

Residents in the area told firefighters they have long been experiencing power interruptions.

Ten families (40 individuals) lost their homes to the fire that razed at least 14 houses.

Damage is pegged at not less than P3 million.

Firefighters received the alarm at 6:31 a.m. and placed the fire under control at 7:33 a.m.

Arceo said access was the main challenge in Tisa because the area where the fire broke out was located in the interior portion.

Initial investigation revealed that the fire started from the second floor of the house owned by a Jasmine Lodonia.

A certain Ronerick Suarez, 23, was reportedly injured in the incident. He sustained a wound on his right knee.

Meanwhile, 50 families (150 individuals) were displaced in the fire that hit sitio Bato in the coastal barangay of Ermita a little past 3 p.m.

SFO1 Riza Julve the fire started from the house of one Merlie Flores. The house was three stories tall and was made of light materials.

No one was in the house when the fire broke out.

At least 25 houses were burned down and damage was pegged at P750,000.

A certain Antonio Yap, 62, sustained burns on his thumb.
