CH offers gardening tools to schools

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Agriculture Department (CAD) has offered technical assistance and supplies for the Department of Education’s Gulayan sa Paaralan program.

The other day, CAD gave out technical assistance to the Sudlon II Integrated School.

CAD is also giving out some gardening tools or some supplies and seedlings for them.

Other interested schools may just coordinate CAD’s office for assistance.

The Gulayan sa Paaralan is not a new concept and it has been done by some schools for a long time already, but this is currently being given some push by the city government to increase food production in the city in times of crisis.

This is also making any available lot in the schools here productive, at the same time, producing fresh and healthy vegetables for the teachers and the rest of the school personnel.

Students are also expected to be taught gardening, not only as a school requirement but for their respective families’ consumption.

Earlier, CAD also introduced urban gardening to the Cebu City Jail.

CAD gave out vegetable seedlings, garden soil, fertilizers, and farm tools.

Barangays and other individuals who also want to try urban gardening may also ask for some assistance from CAD.

The city government has also trained over a hundred job orders on pocket gardening.

These JOs are also expected to cascade all their learning to the community.

In another development, CAD also assisted the financial aid distribution from the Department of Agriculture-VII to rice farmers in Cebu City. — Sanden J. Anadia, GMR (FREEMAN)
