CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City Intelligence Unit has revealed that most illegal drug peddlers in the city are from Cebu City after they arrested another high-value individual on illegal drug trading.
On Saturday evening, the CIU of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) conducted a buy-bust operation in Sitio Mustang, Barangay Pusok in the city at around 11:40 p.m.
During the operation, they arrested a certain Rynam Sormillon, 47, a resident of Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Police Lt. Colonel Jul Mohammad Jamiri, chief of CIU-LLCPO, said that Sormillon was previously arrested also for illegal possession of illegal drugs but was released through plea bargaining last April 2021.
Seized from him were 80 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P544,000.
The suspect was placed under surveillance for two weeks.
Jamiri said that the source of the suspect could be from Cebu City.
According to Jamiri, although he is living in V. Rama, Cebu City, they have monitored that his transactions and distributions include Lapu-Lapu City.
He added that their office received several reports on his alleged movements which was confirmed and turned to be positive.
Further, Jamiri also said they are not discounting the possibility that the illegal drugs confiscated could be sold and distributed around the areas of Lapu-Lapu City.
On their initial investigation, the suspect sells illegal drugs particularly in Lapu-Lapu City. However, they are not ruling out that the suspect could be also selling illegal drugs around the neighboring areas since he is from Cebu City.
Accordingly, he could dispose of 100 to 150 grams of illegal drugs per week.
Aside from suspected shabu, police also were able to confiscate a firearm from his possession.
Jamiri said that he could be bringing a firearm with him during transactions to ensure his security. (FREEMAN)
