CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Vice Governor Hilario Davide III believes that Vice President and presidential bet Leni Robredo’s strength is the many volunteers who are campaigning for her on the ground.
Davide made the remarks following the observation that not all political leaders are supporting Robredo’s bid.
Davide is the only top official in Cebu who has remained with the Liberal Party and is supporting Robredo.
“From the very beginning, ingon siya nga this is a people’s campaign. That’s why nga ang support ni Leni mostly gikan gyud sa mga volunteers, daghan gyud kaayo sila, mao na ang tan-aw nako strength ni VP Leni,” Davide said.
“There are political leaders who are for her, supporting her in other places. Ang diri sa ato, ang daghan kay ang volunteers gyud, kining mga Partido Manggagawa, Makabayan, and cause-oriented groups are supporting VP Leni,” he added.
Davide admitted that the campaign will prove to be challenging considering that they can be considered as “minority” in terms of political leaders throwing their backing to the vice president.
However, he emphasized: “I know kining iyaha kay there are many challenges sa iyang political life or career, but kaya ra gyud ni kay I know nga there’s so many people that support her.”
Davide said he and Cebu City vice mayor independent candidate Bimbo Fernandez will join Robredo when the latter goes on a campaign sortie here in Cebu, along with her running mate, Senator Kiko Pangilinan.
Davide said he did not know yet as to the schedule of such campaign. — KQD (FREEMAN)
