Over 1,000 protocol violators held over the weekend

CEBU, Philippines —  A total of 1,121 protocol violators were apprehended by the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) personnel during their continuous strict enforcement of the health protocols from last Friday until Sunday.

Last Friday, at least 394 violators were apprehended during the regular Oplan Bulabog, at least 45 of whom are minors and 349 are adults.

Among these violators, 225 are individuals who violated the curfew ordinance while 168 were not wearing facemasks.

During this day, the police also inspected at least 460 establishments to make sure that staff and management are following the executive order on prohibiting unvaccinated individuals from dining-in.

On Saturday, a lesser number of violators was observed with the apprehension of 320 violators. Among these, 41 are minors while 279 are adults.

A total of 157 individuals also were apprehended for violating the curfew ordinance while 166 were apprehended for non-wearing of face masks.

A total of 367 establishments were also randomly inspected by the cops as of this day.

Last Sunday, a decrease of violators was also observed with 291 apprehensions. Among these, 25 are minors while 266 are adults.

Also on the same day, 404 establishments were checked.

Police Lt. Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, information officer at CCPO, said they are now consolidating the number of establishments that violated some guidelines to make a necessary report to the Business Permit Licensing Office (BPLO).

"We do this in line with the instruction of our City Mayor urging the establishments to toe the line, hence, closure might take effect against them," said Macatangay.

"Giawhag nato atong mga establishments, we do not want to be found at the receiving end of that sort of a penalty if you don't want your business to close," she added.

She further urged the business owners to cooperate with them. — GMR (FREEMAN)
