PB okays cash aid to Sogod flood victims

The Cebu Provincial Board has given Governor Gwendolyn Garcia a go signal to give P20,000 financial assistance to each of the 299 families affected by the flash floods that hit five barangays in Sogod on October 25.

CEBU, Philippines —  Victims of flash floods in some barangays in Sogod town will soon receive the financial assistance the Capitol has promised to them after the incident last month.

The Cebu Provincial Board has given Governor Gwendolyn Garcia a go signal to give P20,000 financial assistance to each of the 299 families affected by the flash floods that hit five barangays in Sogod on October 25.

A resolution authored by PB Member Andrei “Red” Duterte on the matter was approved by the august body during its regular session Monday.

The financial aid will be sourced out to the Office of the Governor through the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund.

The barangays of Bawo, Damolog, Poblacion, Bagatayam and Ibabao, all in Sogod town, were hit by the flood caused by the heavy downpour in the afternoon of October 25.

The flood damaged several houses, establishments and other properties in the areas.

Capitol and town officials led by Garcia went immediately to the affected area.

Aside from the assistance of the Capitol, Fifth District Congressman Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco and the local government of Sogod also promised financial assistance to the victims, especially those whose houses were damaged by the floods. — GMR (FREEMAN)
