CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) will be back to its original purpose by December 16, Acting Mayor Michael Rama said in yesterday’s press conference.

“I have already set December 16 and to prepare its commencement and what contingency plans that the management of Abellana (CCSC) should be doing and the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) and my office to enhance that area in City Central.”

“And then if the face-to-face commences, we also have to be proactive on looking beyond...All this TTMF (temporary treatment and monitoring facilities) should be looked at ahead so we will not be caught by surprise,” said Rama.

Currently, CCSC is being used as a “Mega Stay-in” facility, which has 18 patients in isolation.

The CCSC was transformed into a “Mega Stay-In” isolation facility when the city was hit by the third wave of COVID-19 and the NOAH Complex at the South Road Properties had already been converted as a vaccination site.

Now with cases going down, the city government is bent on utilizing CCSC for sports anew.

Rama, however, said a portion of the CCSC may also be used as a vaccination site if needed.

Aside from the CCSC, the EOC is also looking at closing isolation facilities in schools already.

This as schools, though not yet open for regular face-to-face classes, will also be used for next year’s national and local elections.

Along with this, the EOC has been tasked to check on other areas that may be utilized as an isolation area, should the need arise in the future.

Rama also said they are looking at preparing the Cebu City Quarantine Center to be utilized for an expanded TTMF.

“We have to look at it from a realistic point of view,” said Rama. —Decemay Padilla/KQD (FREEMAN)
