2,500 Lapu-Lapu residents get cash aid from DSWD
CEBU, Philippines — Around 2,500 Lapu-Lapu City residents have received financial assistance from the government totaling to P3.6 million.
The Office of Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Paz Radaza assisted the release of financial aid amounting to P3.6 million to 2,454 Oponganons through the Individuals in Crisis Situation program (AICS) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Of the 2,454 beneficiaries, 1,068 were from the barangays on Olango Island and three islets while 1,386 were from the mainland barangays in the city.
Each beneficiary who belong to a group of divers, fisherfolks, drivers, boatmen, candle vendors, among others received P1,500 each as financial assistance.
“Nangita tag paagi sa kaulohan nga makapangita ta og pundo didto aron duna ta’y mahatag nga ayuda sa mga Oponganon labi na karon nga lisod kaayo ang panahon,” said Radaza in a statement.
AICS is part of the DSWD’s protective services for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable/disadvantaged individuals.
Radaza said the recipients of the financial assistance were picked through the barangay officials who know the situation of their respective constituents.
The payout started on August 12 and ended last August 27 throughout the 30 barangays in the city where the beneficiaries reside.
Radaza said she will look for more funds so more Oponganons can get cash aid amid the pandemic.
“Daghan na tag nahatagan, apan daghan pa gyud ang wala pa kadawat tungod kay nag-agad ra man ta sa atong pundo. Padayon ako nga maningkamot nga makahatag kita og paspas nga serbisyo ngadto sa mga Oponganon,” the former mayor said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
