CEBU, Philippines — A total of 14 police stations under the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 across the Central Visayas have been inaugurated in line with the Philippine National Police modernization program .
The said program of the PNP aims to construct standard building of police stations to give a better working environment to cops and public service.
These stations are the Basay Municipal Police Station and the Tayasan MPS of Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO); Garcia Hernandez MPS and Buenavista MPS of Bohol PPO; Medellin MPS, Balamban MPS, San Fernando MPS, Tabuelan MPS, Danao City PS of the Cebu PPO.
Further, also inaugurated were the new Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), Canduman Police Station of MCPO and Pardo Police Station of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
The construction of these buildings began in November 2020 up to July 2021. These modernized stations amounted to at least P125 million, according to the statement released by the PRO-7.
PRO-7 director, Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, said the PNP modernization project is a reflection of a “double effort of the PNP for the provision of funds and continuance of the construction of the said buildings amid the challenging time.”
"The police station serves as its primary emergency response center with operations running 24 hours a day to ensure the delivery of excellent police services to the community," said Montejo.
PNP Chief Guillermo Eleazar said the modernization program dubbed as Revitalization and Capacity Program of the PNP fund the construction of at least 400 police stations built in the properties not owned by the PNP, including Central Visayas.
In his visit to the PRO-7 in July, Eleazar also conducted a series of inspections to different police stations and units in line with his Intensified Cleanliness Policy (ICP).
According to him, aside from the modernization program, he would also see to it that if the ICP has been properly imposed and observed by stations.
According to Eleazar, his ICP program goes along with the “Broken Window Theory” which looks into solutions for even the smallest problem.
"Para hindi na lumaki at makahawa at maging problema pa, ay yun nga ay nakapaloob sa tatlo na konsepto, cleanliness in the offices, cleanliness in the ranks and cleanliness in the community," said Eleazar. — GMR (FREEMAN)
