Ex-Alcoy cops in hot water for ‘neglecting’ duty
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Police Provincial Office (CCPO) is set to investigate former Alcoy Municipal Police Station personnel for allegedly refusing to probe the suspect behind a killing incident in 2018.
CCPO made the statement after the victim’s relative and complainant, Rubelyn Mosqueda, sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Central Visayas.
Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano, CPPO director, said an investigation will be launched to determine the involved personnel.
“We will check and verify whether or not the accused personnel are still assigned in Cebu province. We will look into this,” he said.
He said the involved cops may face charges for neglect of duty.
“Police personnel are always reminded to immediately meet people’s queries and not neglect cases,” he said.
He warned cops to handle the cases and investigations seriously, otherwise they will face sanctions.
“I’m very strict sa police na nag-violate either ng ordinance or police policies or pag-handle ng case,” he said.
If police stations failed to act on the concerns or complaints of residents, he said, the complainants may directly raise their issues to the CPPO headquarters.
The police chief also urged Mosqueda to see him personally to discuss the issue.
“If the complainant has grounds or basis then she’s free to file a complaint against the cops formerly assigned in Alcoy,” he said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
