CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has urged all business establishments in the city thru the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) to furnish copies of their job vacancies to the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP).
This is for the DMDP to assist them in finding qualified applicants to fill their job vacancies.
A resolution on the matter sponsored by Councilor Raul Alcoseba was recently approved by the City Council. Alcoseba said all sectors in the city felt the harsh effects of the pandemic and one of the worse hit is the business sector including its employees.
Thus, the need to assist the business sector and facilitate in finding qualified employees.
Alcoseba said the city government and companies or businesses should be partners in providing jobs or employment for the city residents.
“In order to reduce unemployment, Cebu City Government thru the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) needs to assist Cebu City companies or businesses in terms of finding qualified applicants as they start to hire and reopen and/or expand their business,” said Alcoseba.
City Ordinance No. 1523 provides the DMDP shall undertake studies, compile data necessary to help solve the unemployment problem of the City, by developing an integrated program for the training of the indigents and unemployed in learning skills in arts and crafts through industries.
Included also in the department’s functions and duties are monitoring and placement of graduates for employment and provide assistance for social services, as well as working for the possible placement and employment in cooperation and coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. — FPL (FREEMAN)
