HPG notes fewer illegal motorcycle accessories
CEBU, Philippines — The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Cebu Province has recorded a decrease in the number of unauthorized motorcycle accessories confiscated this year compared to the past two years.
The HPG-Cebu unit has destroyed at least 1,400 confiscated motorcycle accessories from their last two years of operations.
A total of 35 sacks containing confiscated blinkers, mufflers and illegally attached led lights were destroyed last April 22.
According to Police Major Michael Gingoyon, HPG-Cebu chief, the usage of these accessories is not as rampant as before.
"According to LTO, ang supplementary lights ang legal. In every supplementary light, it should be a maximum of six volts. Dili sya dapat ibutang sa telescopic sa motor kay mo vibrate man gud na siya which affects other motorists ba," said Gingoyon.
"Legal ilang led lights pero ilang pag-attach or pag-mount sa led light illegal, di na pwede," he added.
Gingoyon further said that the people were now more aware on the existing laws that should be enforced on their vehicles especially with motorcycles.
Meanwhile, at least 1,572 vehicles have been impounded by the HPG from the period of January to March this year for the whole Central Visayas region.
At least 58 of these were impounded motorcycles.
"These were turned over to the local traffic kung asa mi mag-conduct og operation. Like sa Danao, amoa na i-turn over ngadto sa local traffic ang mga impounded with issued citation ticket," said Gingoyon.
Gingoyon also said that their monitoring focus is commonly on the questionable documents that the drivers had especially on their surveillance for suspected stolen vehicles.
"So far, sa Naga kay dira mi halos mag-operate. Diri sa Cebu Province, mas naka-focus gyud mi sa Naga kay naa sad mi office ngadto. Mao to akong nakita nga mas daghan ang na-impound ngadto sa Naga pero everywhere man kung asa mi mag-operate, naa gyuy ma-impound nga mga motorcycles," said Gingoyon.
Foe traffic violations, Gingoyon said the whole Region 7 records an average of 1,800 to 2,000 apprehensions weekly when combined for ticket citations.
"The more nga i-intensify ang amoang operation, the more seguro nga na-aware ang public. So dili rani among enforcement, naa sad ni education campaign among gipahigayon, para mahibaw-an gyud nila ang safety awareness sa kalsada o kadalanan," said Gingoyon. — GMR (FREEMAN)
