CEBU, Philippines — A rape suspect was killed while two were wounded including a policeman in a shootout during the service of warrant of arrest in Liloan town in northern Cebu late Thursday night.
The suspect was identified as Arnel Capangpangan, 35, while his brother who also has standing warrant of arrest for rape, Marlou Capangpangan, sustained a gunshot wound.
Police Lieutenant Zosimo Ravanes Jr., 53, team leader of Anti-Kidnapping Group-Visayas Field Unit (AKG-VFU-7), also sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of his body.
The two accused were both residents of Purok Nangka, Sitio Ilihan, Barangay Lataban, Liloan.
At around 11:40 in the evening, the police were supposedly going to serve a warrant of arrest issued by a court in Iligan City for rape against four individuals, however, during the operation, two of them managed to elude the arrest.
They were identified to be a father and a son and were now subjected for follow-up operation.
During the operation, the Capangpangan brothers allegedly fired first that triggered the operatives to fire back.
The firearms recovered from the crime scene will be subjected to ballistic examination, according to Liloan Police Station chief, Police Captain Marvin Inocencio.
As of this writing, Ravanes and Marlou are still in the hospital undergoing a medical treatment. — GMR (FREEMAN)
