CEBU, Philippines — An alleged “Salisi Gang” member victimizing mall-goers in Talisay City was arrested after trying to ditch a police checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City last Saturday evening.
Police identified the suspect as Ryan Oyeo, 39, a resident of Barangay Kawayan, Dalaguete, Cebu.
Police Corporal Eleazar Belciña, chief investigator of Talisay City Police Station, said Oyeo and his companion were flagged down during a routine checkpoint at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday but they refused to heed.
In an effort to avoid the checkpoint, the driver made a sudden u-turn, throwing off Oyeo and speed off leaving the latter alone. Oyeo tried to run but was eventually arrested while his companion eluded arrest.
"Pagka bantay niya nga checkpoint, ni u-turn, so mao to naa man tay andam nga security ni diretso og padagan gihapon ang suspect despite nga giingnan silang muhunong para sa checkpoint, kaning nadakpan natagak ni siya sa motor," Belcina told The FREEMAN.
Upon frisking, police found three packs of suspected shabu in Oyeo’s possession.
He admitted to the police that he is a member of “Salisi” group operating at Talisay City malls.
"Dugay na sad namo ni gipangita, in fact, naa sad mi nakita nga picture sa CCTV footage, niangkon siya nga siya gyud,” Belcina said.
Oyeo said his companion who eluded arrest was their gang leader.
Meanwhile, operatives of Samboan Police Station arrested on Saturday a suspected drug pusher during a buy-bust operation.
The police seized four small packs of shabu from Rocky Zabate Rondina, 36, a resident of Barangay Pablacion, Samboan.
Police Staff Sergeant Recel Jabagat, desk officer of Samboan Police Station, said it was the third time Rondina was arrested for drug-related offense. The suspect is now detained at the police station while charges are being prepared for filing. — FPL (FREEMAN)
