LTFRB-7 fines PUV drivers violating health protocols
CEBU, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has continued reminding the public utility vehicle drivers and operators to strictly implement the minimum health protocols inside the vehicle.
LTFRB-7 regional director Eduardo Montealto said that they have apprehended several bus drivers for violating the minimum health standards.
Montealto said that the other day, their personnel were able to apprehended 20 bus drivers and imposed a P5,000 fine per violation.
Five jeepney drivers were also apprehended for committing same violations.
“Kasagaran ang mga drivers madakpan kay wala nagsul-ob og facemask,” Montealto said.
He said that they were also able to apprehend bus driver for overloading in Carcar City that clearly violates the social distancing mandate.
Montealto also urged the local government units to have their own executive order by deploying personnel to help them apprehend violators where violations are being committed in their jurisdiction.
“Mao na akong hangyo nga maghimo sad unta ang mga LGUs og EO nga mag-deploy sad sila sa ilang mga personnel aron pagdakop aning mga violators,” he said adding, “kay kaning ubang mga drivers ang LTFRB ra pud ang bantayan”.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation is calling on the operators and drivers of public transport vehicles to be serious and be extra diligent in the disinfection of their vehicles as part of health protocols against COVID-19.
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade ina statementalso appealed to the riding public to actively participate in containing the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Tugade said passengers can do their share by strictly complying to the health protocols implemented in public transport, and by reporting to authorities any breach of health protocols.
“As operators and drivers of public transport vehicles, you do not only bring passengers from their homes to their workplaces and back. You are also given the responsibility to make sure that they are healthy and safe when they arrive at their destinations,” Tugade said. —GMR (FREEMAN)
