CEBU, Philippines — For the first time this month, Cebu City breached the 200-mark anew in the number of new cases after recording 233 on Mar. 12, according to the case bulletin of the Department of Health-7.
Since the start of March, new cases in Cebu City have been below 200 with Mar. 8 registering the lowest in almost two weeks at only 132.
So far this month, the city has already recorded 26 deaths.
Active cases in the city are now at 2,739 based on DOH’s report but the city’s Emergency Operations Center has accounted for only 1,966 active cases. According to the EOC, the DOH-7 has yet to verify some of the active cases in coordination with the EOC.
The active cases come from 70 of the city’s 80 barangays.
The latest data also showed that there were 78 additional recoveries for Cebu City.
The city’s positivity rate also went back to 14.55% after 233 of the 1,594 individuals tested turned out positive for the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic hit the city, the city has already logged a positivity rate 9.65% from the 201,486 people tested.
Latest data from the EOC showed that city’s critical care occupancy rate in all of the 15 facilities is 52.7% with 538 beds intended for COVID-19 occupied and 483 beds vacant.
The EOC also noted another death for Cebu City, which brought the total this month to 26. In February, the city registered 40 deaths.
Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City posted 76 additional cases bringing its total active cases to 1,126.
Mandaue, for its part, has 1,099 active cases with the addition of 69 new cases. The city also reported one more death.
The rest of Cebu province logged an additional 97 cases to put the total active cases to 1,377.
Meanwhile, Negros Oriental is now down to 122 active cases. Bohol has 277 and Siquijor has five left after nine recovered and one died. — JMD (FREEMAN)
