Around 500 Bohol informal workers get livelihood assistance

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Visayas recently granted a total of P6.2 million in livelihood assistance to Bohol province’s 459 informal workers.

The beneficiaries were associations and individuals from the towns of Balilihan and Buenavista.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton urged the beneficiaries to work hard and nurture the livelihood projects aided to them.

The aid was part of DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program.

In Del Carmen Sur, Balilihan, the department released P1.6 million to 102 beneficiaries, who are engaged in papaya pickles production, soap production, tableya production and food handling business.

In Barangay Nieva Montana, Buenavista, 53 beneficiaries were granted P511,000 for their rice mill project.

In Barangay Catigbi-an, on the other hand, 69 beneficiaries of Catigbi-an Waterworks and Sanitation Association for its Native Chicken Production received P1 million in cash grant.

While four women’s groups, Pundok sa mga Asawa Alang sa Kausaban sa Baluarte in Barangay Baluarte, the Panghagban Women’s Association in Purok 3, Panghagban, the Women’s Association sa Bantuan Ipdayon ug Palambopon in Purok 5, Bantuan, and Kahugpungan sa mga Kababayen-an sa Putingbato in Barangay Putingbato. In Lapacan Norte received almost P2 million grant.

The 43 beneficiaries in Barangay Baluarte got P482,000  for their farm machineries and inputs project.

The 50 beneficiaries from Purok 3, Panghagban and the 40 beneficiaries of Purok 5, Bantuan are set to venture into egg production. Each purok received half million.

The 52 beneficiaries from Barangay Putingbato were given P532,000 and the 50 beneficiaries in Lapacan, Norte received P500,000 for their farm machineries and input projects.

DOLE-Bohol officer-in-charge Angelie Salgados said the local government unit of Balilihan and the DOLE’s accredited co-partners (ACPs) in the implementation of the livelihood projects of the association-beneficiaries have started canvassing for the goods and materials the beneficiaries would need for their respective livelihood undertakings. — KQD (FREEMAN)
