Mandaue fire victims get cash assistance
Residents of Mandaue City, Cebu who survived a fire in Barangay Looc receive financial aid from the city government.

CEBU, Philippines —  More than 120 families affected by the fire in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City two weeks ago yesterday received cash assistance from the city government.

Mayor Jonas Cortes led the distribution of financial aid to the 574 residents whose houses in Sitio Superior, Barangay Looc were razed by fire.

Each family who lost their house to the fire received P10,000 while those partially damaged got P5,000 each. Renters were also given P2,500 each.

 Some of the victims remain at the evacuation centers until now while the others have returned to their partially-burned houses.

Meanwhile, the Lapu-Lapu City government is also giving out financial assistance today to the families affected by the storm surge in Sitios Apro, Seaside and Tacan in Barangay Ibo and Barangays Caw-oy, Tingo, and Talima in Olango Island.

City Social Welfare Development Office head Annabeth Cuizon said each family whose house was damaged completely will receive P25,000 while P10,000 for those partially damaged.

The storm surge left the city an estimated damage of at least P2.1 million and affected at least 145 families. — FPL (FREEMAN)
