CEBU, Philippines — After all the waiting, travel to the Olango Island and island hopping activities will now be more comfortable and safer with the new multi-purpose building and terminal at Angasil Port in Lapu-Lapu City.
The Angasil Port is one of busiest public maritime facilities in Lapu-Lapu City accommodating locals, tourists, and cargo travelling and in transit from and to the main island and island barangays in the city.
The newly inaugurated facility had a budget allocation of P20 million through former congresswoman Aileen Radaza and was completed by her mother, now Representative Paz Radaza.
The multi-purpose building is envisioned to be a safe haven for both passengers and tourists while waiting for their trips, especially during bad weather.
It shall likewise be a home to the Barangay Mactan and other government offices for them to provide their services in the area.
Rep. Radaza made sure that this project is completed as she knows how difficult travel is to the island barangays before.
“Lisud gyud ang kahimtang diri sa una kung mobiyahe ta padulong ug gikan sa atong mga isla. Aside sa pagpalapad sa dalan ug sa causeway, nitabang sad diri si Cong. Aileen sa paghatag aning multi-purpose building, nga akong gitapos isip congresswoman karon sa siyudad,” Rep. Radaza said.
Aside from that, the younger Radaza added that the multi-purpose building can also be utilized as evacuation center during disasters.
Mactan Barangay Captain Evaristo Dihayco thanked the Radazas for the multi-purpose building.
“Salamat sa inyong walay undang nga pagtabang dili lang sa Barangay Mactan, sa mga taga isla, kung dili sa tibuok siyudad,” he said.
The barangay chief also expressed thanks to the Department of Public Works and Highways for the support and implementation of the project.
Rep. Radaza is now keeping her sight on the construction of drainages and widening of the road to prevent flooding in lowland areas including the Bankal-Buaya-Pajac-Basak drainage project which broke ground last week.
She said the recent heavy flooding in Luzon during super typhoons inspired her to do flood control projects as her one of the priorities in her term as city’s lone representative.
Radaza is also monitoring the implementation of her other projects including medical assistance, burial assistance, educational assistance as well as financial assistance to locally-stranded individuals. — GMR (FREEMAN)
