EOC eyes banning Misa de Gallo in chapels
CEBU, Philippines — After the decision to ban caroling in Cebu City, the City’s Emergency Operations Center for COVID-19 is also eyeing to recommend the cancellation of the traditional Misa de Gallo in different chapels.
It has to be emphasized that the proposed recommendation will only cover chapels, and not churches, as the latter are allowed to allow churchgoers under the modified enhanced community quarantine but for a limited capacity.
EOC deputy chief implementer and City Councilor Joel Garganera said it would be best not to hold these activities in the chapels to prevent people from flocking together.
The plan also takes a cue from the decision of the rectors of Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño cancelling or postponing public religious activities for the Fiesta Senor next year.
According to Garganera, other Christmas-related activities in the barangays will also have to be looked into.
Garganera said he is going to sit down with ABC president Franklin Ong to discuss about this matter before forwarding the recommendation to Mayor Edgardo Labella.
“Para nako ba, makasabot man ng Ginoo ba. On top of that, daghan na man pud tag mga live streaming pud,” said Garganera.
Garganera hopes the Cebuanos will put health and safety as a primary concern, especially in the time of pandemic.
He said he is sad that at the moment, Cebu City’s COVID-19 cases are higher than the recoveries.
The 13 new cases in Cebu City, according to DOH’s November 10 case bulletin, come from 11 different barangays, Garganera said.
“Good ra unta to’g 13, unya seven ato close contact ra ba, pito sa usa ra ka balay. Just imagine 11 barangays. Unsa ni sila, nag-attend silag party?” said Garganera.
Now, Cebu City is down to 42 barangays without COVID-19 transmission for the last 14 days. — Decemay P. Padilla, JMD (FREEMAN)
