Applicants storm Sugbo Negosyo program

CEBU, Philippines —  Considering the influx of applicants, Sugbo Negosyo is seen to continue next year depending on the success of its first implementation.

Sixth District Provincial Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco, who chairs the Commerce and Trade Committee, revealed that the number of people who tendered their applications to all offices of the board members and the vice governor have exceeded expectations.

"The submissions have exceeded the number of applicants sa matag office. This shows that there's really a lot of entrepreneurs, or would be entrepreneurs who are interested with the program and those who have been affected by the pandemic," said Soco.

Although acknowledging challenges along the way, Soco said they are hopeful that the first implementation would be successful. If so, he is positive that the program will be continued next year.

"As intimated by the governor, we will have to make this program succeed. Because I think this is a first of a kind program, the only one in the entire country. And along the way, duna gyu'y challenges that we encounter. We are hopeful that this can be successful so that by next year, we can add another budget as intimated by the governor,” he said.

“As soon the program be successful, then we can always, if there's enough funds that we can allocate for it to continue," he added.

On Friday, November 6, the Central Committee received all the applications that were endorsed by the offices of PB members and the vice governor.

"Currently, the Central Committee is already in the process of evaluating the applications that were submitted. There will be representatives of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Department of Trade and Industry who will sit down with the offices of different board members and the vice-governor to do the evaluation," Soco said.

 In a report of Sugbo News, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia assured the suppliers that the payment for the goods and materials claimed by the Sugbo Negosyo beneficiaries will be paid by the Capitol in just a week.—  JMD (FREEMAN)
