CEBU, Philippines — More security control points will be set up at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu in preparations for the Yuletide season and Fiesta Señor 2021.
Cebu City Councilor Philip Zafra, who also chairs the City Council’s committee on peace and order, said the control points will be put in place by mid-December or first day of Misa de Gallo.
He said this is among the protocols to be implemented in a bid to avoid throngs of devotees and spectators.
He earlier said that limited number of devotees will only be allowed inside the Basilica to ensure strict observance of physical distancing and other health protocols.
Bringing of quarantine pass, and wearing of face shield and face mask will still be implemented.
Moreover, religious activities for next year’s Fiesta Señor ( Feast of the Holy Child) will also be adjusted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Fiesta Señor is a celebration held every third Sunday of January in honor of the baby Jesus or Señor Sto. Niño.
The Sinulog Festival is among the highlights of the celebration.
The Sinulog Foundation Incorporated and the city government are still planning the activity and drafting the guidelines.
Last week, Vice Mayor Michael Rama said some international and out-of-town contingents have already expressed their interest to join the ritual competition. — KQD (FREEMAN)
